What is Cloud Computing really?

Today, this is one of the most talked about subjects on the planet. Never before has so much been talked about the “tal” Cloud (cloud). Many speak, almost 100% of the world population uses. But come here: you know exactly what it is Cloud Computing (Cloud computing)?

In a very general way, Cloud Computing (Cloud Computing, or simply Cloud), is a technology resource on demand through the internet. The biggest example we have is our email address (@gmail, @outlook, @yahoo and so on), storage as DropboxGoogle DriveOne Drive and etc.

But make no mistake, that's not all. As I said, the explanation there is very, very general.

In a more technical way, cloud computing is the delivery of IT resources on demand through the Internet with payment price definition according to use. Instead of buying, owning and maintaining physical data centers and servers, you can access technology services, such as computing capacity, storage and databases, as needed, using a cloud provider like Amazon Web Services (AWS)AZURE gives MicrosoftGCP gives Google. These are the main suppliers of Cloud on the market today. But we have others like IBM Cloud and a Chinese Alibaba.

They noted what I said above: "Instead of buying, owning and maintaining physical data centers and servers, you can access technology services, such as computing capacity, storage and databases, as needed."
That is, all the concern with maintenance, support, licenses and other things, will be the responsibility of the provider I choose. If my headquarters has to change addresses, without problems, I just need to have access to the internet so I can still access all the company's resources. Very cool this!!!

What other benefits do I have with the Cloud?

  • Scalability - One of the great advantages is the elasticity, where you can easily increase and decrease your machine's capacity with just a few clicks. THE Cloud Computing then it became attractive.
  • Agility - The cloud enables innovation with more agility, you can make IT resources available quickly and as needed with low cost, deploying multiple servers in a few moments.
  • Reliability - A cloud computing platform provides much more managed services, reliable and consistent than an internal IT infrastructure (called a on-premise). It guarantees 24 × 7 and 365 days of service. If any server fails, the hosted applications and services can be easily transferred to any of the available servers.

Types of cloud computing

Cloud services can be made available to organizations in 3 ways: Public Cloud, Private Cloud, Hybrid Cloud.

Public Cloud

The most popular, cheapest and simplest to implement, where it shares its resources and offers its services to the public through the Internet. In this model, the customer is responsible for what will be sent to the cloud, be it a backup, an application or some files, while the cloud provider is concerned with the maintenance, security and management of all the physical resources of the environment that make up the scenario of the customer.

Private Cloud

In this modality, the services are restricted and made available only to its internal users, through the organization's private network, normally all IT resources are hosted locally - it is usually used by organizations that must follow certain regulations and rules specific to security and privacy. data, as is the case with some financial and government institutions, being a more expensive and complex model to be implemented.

Hybrid cloud

It combines public and private cloud linked by technology that allows data and applications to be shared between them. By allowing data and applications to move between private and public clouds, a hybrid cloud gives your company greater flexibility, more deployment options and helps to optimize your existing infrastructure, security and compliance.

Well folks, this is just the beginning of Cloud Computing. In the next topic, we will understand the types of cloud services: IaaS, PaaS, SaaS.

Until the next people.
