Fix Windows 10 search error - Guide 02/2020

The Windows 10 search bar does not work for some users this Wednesday morning (5). According to reports on the Internet, the search bar is blank and does not allow searching the system, just as Cortana does not work either. In Portuguese, the computer displays the message “Incorrect permissions on Windows Search directories”. Apparently, the error affects only machines with the latest version of the system.

It is not yet known what would be the reason for the error in Windows 10. By Twitter, some users claim that the flaw would be related to Bing search, which is enabled by default in the system. Therefore, an attempt to resolve it would be to disable the Microsoft search engine in the Windows start menu. The problem, however, is that the main way to do this is to use the search bar itself. Other possible solutions are to restart Cortana, check the service status or use the troubleshooting feature to try to repair the error.

How to Fix Windows 10 Search Error Showing Blank Results (Update 2020)

On February 5, many Windows 10 users around the world found that Windows search shows blank results after entering a search query. This problem arose from Bing's integration with the Windows search bug. There is currently nothing you can do to make the Bing service work properly, as the problem is at Microsoft. However, you can disable it and continue using only Windows search. The safest way to do this is to edit the registry yourself. We do not recommend downloading pre-made solutions, as they may be recognized as dangerous by your antivirus.

How to disable Bing Search integration

1- Press the key Windows + R on the keyboard at the same time. This starts the prompt Run .
2- At the prompt Run , type it regedit and press OK .
3- Now, you will see the window User Account Control on the screen, which asks if you want to allow the program to make changes to your system. click in Yes .
4- Now, use the left navigation panel to start folders in the following order:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Search . Or you can simply copy and paste this line into the Windows Registry navigation bar.
5- Now, click like right mouse button in the folder Search and select New> DWORD value (32 bits).

6- Now, name the DWORD Value created as BingSearchEnabled.
7- Double-click on it to ensure that it has a value 0 . If you don't know the technical terms, 0 means negative (false) and 1 means positive (true) in IT. That’s why BingSearchEnabled with a value of 0 means it’s actually disabled

8- Now, in the same Search folder, find a key called CortanaConsent . Double-click on it and set your value like 0 . click in OK to confirm.

9- Now, in the same Search folder, find a key called CortanaConsent . Double-click on it and set your value like 0 . click in OK to confirm.

TIP . Sooner or later, Microsoft will release a fix for the Windows Search blank results error. Once available, you can delete the EnableBingSearch key and set the CortanaConsent key value to 1 again.
